The Happenings
[Warning: The beginning of my day wasn’t very eventful. Skip to the next paragraph if you want to read about the fun stuff]
The Beginning
Today was more of a lazy stay home day. I slept in and woke up around 8. I was cooking dinner for my friends today so I went to Iceland (a grocery store) to pick up some ingredients at 9. I read Chapter 6 of the physics book to get a head start on the reading and then I made brunch for my friends at 12pm. I just made simple scrambled eggs. Robert made us all cheese quesadillas and Anabella toasted some bread and put butter on them. It was a light and refreshing breakfast.
The Preparation
After brunch, I started prepping for dinner. Inspired by my dad, I was going to make soy-lemon marinated chicken breasts and a vegetable stir fry, all served with rice. I made the marinade from soy sauce, lemon, brown sugar, rapeseed oil, salt, and pepper. While I was mixing those together, Anabella and Raya were stabbing the chicken breasts with forks so the sauce could seep in and really flavor the chicken. After all this was done we put them in a ziploc bag and waited until dinner time. Nothing eventful happened for the next four or five hours and I read a bit more for physics and browsed the internet.
The Cooking
At 7pm, I started cooking dinner. With all my experience watching years of Masterchef, Hell’s Kitchen, and America’s Worst Chefs, I knew that timing was everything. I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could multitask like the chefs I saw on tv. I knew the components that took the longest time had to get started first so I prepared the rice first. After putting that on the stove, I started to stir fry my vegetables (I just boiled a frozen vegetable medley bag and then put them in a pan with onions and soy sauce). After that was done, I started to fry my chickens. I didn’t really know how to cook chicken and google said to do 5 minutes per side so I tried to do that. But some of the pieces were thick so I had to fry three of the sides. I was basically eyeballing everything. I will say that the chicken did look good and after an hour I had finished cooking everything! Out of 8 chicken breasts, only one was a bit raw in the middle. I was cooking 2-3 of them in the pan at a time so I’m not really sure why only that was wasn’t cooked all the way. Maybe it was just thicker than the others or maybe I just messed up; I don’t really know. But don’t worry! We didn’t try to eat it.
A Spontaneous Delight
After dinner, Robert brought up the idea of going back to Loop and Scoop for dessert and everyone was down to go! All I have to say was that it was amazinggg. I knew I wanted to go back after trying it the first time because of the churros but I didn’t think we’d go back the very next day. I was super excited on the walk over and I ordered their signature Loop & Scoop. The Loop and Scoop is a garnished churro bent into the shape of a loop served with two scoops of ice cream. I ordered were the chocolate dipped, oreo covered churro with mint and vanilla ice cream. Let me tell you, every bite was amazing. The churro was still warm and it was super crunchy but soft and fluffy on the inside. The vanilla and mint were so pure tasting, not overly strong but light enough to be refreshing. I felt like I was in heaven and I was so content after finishing every last bite.
Chinese Video Games?
After dessert, Anabella wanted to watch a movie so we went to our lobby to watch something on a big screen (I’d say it was about 3 ft x 6 ft). We ended up watching Love 020, which is also a series. The movie was cringey at times but was overall entertaining and a nice way to end the night. The basic storyline is that a guy and girl meet up in an online video game and they end up liking each other, in both the game and in real life. I won’t spoil much more of it but it was light hearted and there wasn’t too much drama. The CGI and effects though were really something…they reminded me a lot of older Chinese movies. That withstanding, the movie did give me many good laughs and wrapped up the day with a pleasant ending. It was a great day to stay in and have fun with the gang.
