The Happenings

Late Start

Today was an extremely late start day. I woke up at 8 but then fell back asleep until 10. Then I tried to read a bit more for physics but my willpower ultimately gave up and I made my fried rice for brunch. Justin and I planned on going to the Kelvingrove Art Gallery. The main reason I wanted to go was for the organ recital at 3pm but looking at art is cool too.

History, Art, and Music

We got to the art museum at around 2pm and checked out their exhibitions for an hour until 3pm. The very first gallery I went into was about The Glasgow Boys, who were artists in the 19th/20th century and their works largely reminded me of impressionism. However, I am not that knowledgeable about art so I could be wrong. However, the next few displays I visited all focused on the history of Glasgow and Scotland and it was cool to see how the impact the Industrial Revolution had on a country. I saw old teacups and artwork that was inspired by the new trade with Japan in the mid 19th century. There were replicas of tea rooms and old glassware. It really reminded me of AP Euro, but in a good way. America doesn’t really have the long culture and history that European countries have so it was enlightening to see the immense changes that Glasgow underwent in the past 200 years.

And then it was time. It 2:50 and all the seats on the lower floor were taken. i scrambled to find a good spot along the walls to watch from but then I saw people above me looking down from the railing of the second floor. AHA! I quickly ran up and secured myself a spot where I could actually see the performer playing. Programs were passed out and it was a splendid 45 minute recital. One of my favorite songs played was War March of the Priests by Felix Mendelssohn and Adagio by Samuel Barber. The organ is just so rich and full sounding. Awesome is the only way I can describe it.

Thai Curry

After Justin and I finished looking around the museum, we headed over to Richard’s place for dinner. He cooked us Thai chicken curry and it was pretty good. I wonder if this is what college life becomes after I move out of the dorms on campus. No more meal plan but maybe there’ll be more fun cooking with others? It was nice of him to cook us dinner and maybe this will become a thing where someone makes dinner each the weekend. I think that would be fun!

A Picturesque Drive

We ordered an uber for the ride back and we got a pretty cool dude. He played some Italian cinema music and it made me feel like I was in a movie. The route he took was extremely scenic. We passed many old buildings, trendy restaurants, a few stoic churches, and very European looking homes. I want to say that they looked Victorian but I am not architect so who knows. All I can say for sure if that they don’t look like the houses in California. They were closer to something I would see in New England states. Anyway, passing all these buildings with the music made it seem like I was going on an adventure and I really felt like I was part of the city.

The Tiresome Grind

But then we got back to the dorms and I basically just did physics for the rest of the night. I made a meal of pasta to break the monotony of homework but the last few hours of the night were pretty uneventful. I actually finished my homework before 11:30 and wrote up the posts for today and yesterday. I was a bit behind writing them this weekend so I had to play catch-up today. However, these posts are a bit draining and take quite a chunk of time to write (about 30-40 minute). I haven’t even uploaded any pictures or videos yet, which I will get to eventually. Since the weekday is pretty draining as it is, I will be writing significantly less from Monday-Thursday, but nothing that exciting happens anyway; it’s mostly just physics. I’ll still write a lot on the weekends though to share all my cool experiences! And with that it’s time for bed. . . ZZZzzz…
